Dhows are the large wooden ocean-going vessels most frequently used as cargo ships and fishing vessels. In ancient times they were an indispensable link in Middle East trading, with Omani dhows playing trading routes to locales in the Arabian Gulf, East Africa, India and even China.
Sur was once the ancient boatbuilding centre of Oman and much of the bay was filled with workers completing the dhows by hands and by memory: no plans or blueprints were used.
Today we are going to take a sea cruise around Muscat coastal line on an exclusive private dhow. Morning is the best time to go for a cruise as the sea is more calm. If we are lucky enough, the dolphins will play with the waves around our ship and we can watch this impressive performance!
